Local volunteering is currently suspended

If you are interested in volunteering to support the response to coronavirus, please apply to the NHS Volunteer Responder Scheme. NHS Volunteer Responders is a new group that will carry out simple, non-medical tasks to support people in England who have been asked to shield themselves from coronavirus because of underlying health conditions.

Apply to be a Volunteer Responder

Volunteers provide an invaluable service to patients and their relatives. The contribution of volunteers complements the work of our paid staff and helps us improve the experience of our patients and visitors.

Our volunteers help in many ways, such as:

  • Ward befrienders
  • Front of house welcome / information desk
  • Research ambassadors
  • Social link support
  • Mealtime buddies
  • Supporting clinics
  • Telephone survey support
  • League of Friends shop assistant

Continuity and reliability is important to build good relationships with staff and to help you feel part of the team, so we ask for a minimum six month commitment from our volunteers.

For most people this will be for a few hours on a regular weekly or fortnightly basis.

We undertake stringent registration checks to ensure the safety of our staff and patients. These can take up to six weeks to complete and include an interview, two references, DBS criminal record check and an occupational health check.

All our volunteers are bound by the Trust Confidentiality Policy.
