Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust (HRCH) is gearing up to support National Wear Red Day by hosting a heart disease awareness event with British Heart Foundation (BHF) on Friday 5 February at Hounslow Library.

At the event, HRCH’s NHS specialists will take blood pressure checks and promote Hounslow’s health and wellbeing services. There will also be free exercise sessions to help people understand how simple exercises can lead to a healthier heart. British Heart Foundation will be available to provide information on heart health.

Wear Red Day on 6 February encourages people to wear red and host red events with friends, family or colleagues to raise money for BHF’s heart and circulatory disease research. Heart disease takes the lives of over 400 people in the UK every day.

Payal Halwai-Bhatia, health improvement and trainer coordinator for HRCH’s health promotion team, said: “We’re delighted to host an event like this with British Heart Foundation because heart disease needs to be addressed in the local communities and not just on a national level.

She said, “Health events like this are aimed at communities such as Hounslow so we can target those most at risk. Our team will show people how to look after their heart and overall health and manage their diet and physical activity after a heart attack to allow them to live independent lives.”

HRCH’s Wear Red event with BHF will be held on Friday 5 February at Hounslow Library, TW3 1ES, 11am-4pm.

HRCH’s cardiac rehabilitation services and vascular education programme

Cardiac Rehabilitation in Hounslow offers exercise, advice and information sessions on dietary and lifestyle management to people who have had a recent heart attack or open heart surgery in order to help them get back to a normal lifestyle as quickly as possible.

This programme helps people to understand their condition, recover from their heart attack or surgery, and make changes to their lifestyle in order to improve health and reduce the risk of heart problems in the future.

The free NHS Health Introduction programme, held on Saturdays at Heart of Hounslow Centre for Health 10am-12.30pm and 1.15pm-3.45pm, is a group health information and educational session focusing on vascular health care. It aims to help local people understand what vascular risk is.
