Supporting people with learning disabilities to get the Covid vaccine

Our Hounslow Adult Learning Disability Health Team has been supporting service users to receive the Covid-19 vaccine through its specialist desensitisation programme.

Learning disability nurses and positive behaviour support practitioners have been working together to create this bespoke programme which seeks to protect some of the most vulnerable people in our community who, for a variety of reasons, may struggle to be vaccinated.

Sadly, people who have a learning disability are 4-6 times more likely to die if they contract Covid-19. And those who are 18-34 years old with a learning disability are 30 times more likely to die, so this is considered clinically urgent work.
