The NHS is open for you

23 October 2020

While our amazing staff and colleagues across the NHS have pulled out all the stops to deal with coronavirus and continue to work hard to keep you and your family safe, they have also been making sure that patients who don’t have Covid-19 can safely access essential services.

So whether you or loved one have health concerns, you should seek help in the way you always would. Ignoring problems can have serious consequences – now or in the future.

You may find things feel a little different, such as asking you to cover your face and satitise your hands, but this is intended to keep you, our staff and other patients safe.

Attending hospital

If you are asked to attend hospital or another medical appointment, it is important that you do so. We have put in place rigorous infection control measures to keep both patients during the pandemic, and staff safe, including separating people who may have Covid-19 from those who do not.

The NHS is here for you and if you have been called for an appointment, it is important that you attend. Please make sure you attend if you are asked to do so – it is much safer to attend hospital when required, than not to come in due to misplaced fears.

If you need medical advice

Please contact your GP if you need medical advice. You may be offered a telephone, video or online consultation in the first instance.  We may ask you to send us pictures.

If you are called in for a face to face consultation, please follow the guidance your practice will provide, so that your care is as safe as we can make it.

If you think you need to see a GP or hospital doctor, it is best if you call ahead – either phone your GP surgery or 111 - please use NHS 111 online in the first instance as this will be quicker.

In a medical emergency, you should always call 999.
