Cardiac Rehabilitation in Hounslow offers exercise, advice and information sessions on dietary and lifestyle management to people who have had a recent heart attack or open heart surgery in order to help them get back to a normal lifestyle as quickly as possible.
This programme helps people to understand their condition, recover from their heart attack or surgery, make changes to their lifestyle in order to improve health and also to reduce the risk of some heart problems in the future.
The programme has several different parts to it:
- Patients on the wards usually receive information leaflets and advice from the nurses before they are discharged home.
- Patients are then offered a clinic appointment with the dietitian and physiotherapist for individual advice and assessment. At this appointment the physiotherapist may discuss with them the benefits of the cardiac rehabilitation exercise programme. It is at this appointment that the physiotherapist will also assess their suitability for the cardiac rehabilitation exercise programme.
- Exercise programme: This usually starts about five to eight weeks after leaving the hospital. It includes an individually tailored prescription of exercises within a class setting with support and advice from the team.
- Heart health information days: These are held three times during the year, and include information sessions on many aspects of a heart healthy lifestyle.
