“Every interaction counts to someone living with dementia. Facts may be forgotten but feelings always remain. We have the chance to create positive feelings and help others live well with dementia.”
There are approximately 700,000 people with dementia in the UK the majority of which are over 65. Of these 7 out of 10 people living with dementia are also living with another medical condition or disability. The majority of people with dementia are being supported and cared for by family members often with age related health challenges of their own. As healthcare outcomes improve and prolong life the number of people with dementia is likely to increase to an anticipated 1.4 million in the next 30 years, and health and social care services need to be in a position to respond to the increased need for services and support.
