Trust supports Disney campaign to ‘shake up’ the summer for kids

Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust is getting behind a major new campaign to help kids exercise more and stay healthy during the summer holidays. 

The 10 Minute Shake Up campaign, delivered in partnership between Change4Life and Disney, aims to bring a little magic to families by helping children across the country to achieve their recommended 60 minutes of exercise each day over the summer holidays - and beyond. 

During the long summer holidays, parents often struggle to keep their kids active and entertained. Families who sign up for 10 Minute Shake Up will receive a FREE pack, designed by Disney, containing inspirational ideas and tools to help kids on their way to achieving their recommended minutes of moderate activity per day.  

The activity packs contain exercise and activity ideas for short 10 minute bursts of exercise, along with a wall chart and stickers, a wristband and timer. 

The campaign aims to help the 4 in 5 children who currently do not achieve the recommended 60 minutes of exercise per day and the 40% who do less than 30 minutes per day, by helping to break it down into 10 minute bursts of fun.  

Children need 60 minutes of activity a day and evidence demonstrates the considerable benefits of children achieving 10 minutes or more moderate to vigorous activity, several times a day – which helps to improve health and fitness overall. 

Jennifer Banks-Smith, Health Promotion Manager at Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust said: “We’re encouraging local people to get involved this summer and sign up for the free pack, which will help kids to stay healthy, active and entertained over the long summer months.  

“Regular physical activity is really important for children’s development and vital for their overall health and wellbeing.  Children need a minimum of 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise per day and doing short bursts of 10 minutes of activity throughout the day really does make a big difference."
